YUNGBLUD SHOW REVIEW
I always wondered what it would have been like to go to those shows our parents went to when they were my age. You know, those shows where they saw someone like the Stones or Black Sabbath for like $5 and a handshake with the bouncer. If you have ever felt similar feelings to this, you have to see YUNGBLUD the first chance you get. Many acts claim to be bringing back the sex, drugs and rock & roll lifestyle, but YUNGBLUD is actually living and promoting that lifestyle. The energy and passion he puts into every song is contagious and exhilarating in a live setting. For context, I have been to The Riviera in Chicago countless times, however seeing YUNGBLUD perform there almost makes it feel like it was my first time ever stepping foot in that place.
From the moment he came out on stage, his presence commanded the attention of every member of the audience. The love for him could be felt from every side and corner of the venue. “Hello Heaven, Hello” is a 9-minute song and kicks off the show to let you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into. If you weren’t enthralled from the first 4.5 minutes, the last 4.5 were sure to get you. It is a song that is so dynamic, you don’t even notice that it has been going on non-stop for that amount of time.
There were two separate times where the show had to be paused due to the crowd’s rowdiness and medical personnel were required to step in. Like any person would hope that their favorite artist would do- YUNGBLUD left the stage to avoid distraction and ensure that those that needed assistance were taken care of. His actions were a show of genuine care for his fans and wanted everyone to have both a good and safe time. We can party, we can be crazy, we can love each other, but before all else– we have to be safe.
If you have ever watched any of our vlogs or listened to our episodes where we describe our experiences at shows, you know that we are no strangers to collective effervescence. It’s that feeling that’s described as being emotionally moved by the energy shared by a group of people. There were a few moments during the show where I felt this.
When YUNGBLUD walked on the crowd and finished a song out whilst standing on the crowd. We gotta bring back being this close to your fans y’all… that was so sick. (see picture below)
During his cover of “Changes” where we were all singing and he was looking up while he was singing. We were all singing to Ozzy Osbourne but he was singing to his friend.
During “Ghosts”, where you could hear just how powerful the crowd’s voices could get.
Finally, during “Zombie”. YUNGBLUD ending the show with such a raw and vulnerable song felt like something out of a movie as everyone sang the last chorus together acapella. I couldn’t see a lot of artists making this decision, but he pulled it off successfully and the audience sang along with him so well.
Prior to seeing YUNGBLUD live in concert, I had the pleasure of seeing his movie in theaters about his album “IDOLS”. It was a classic rock documentary that explained the meaning behind every song, anecdotes from touring, and his friends that got him to where he is today. The transition from watching that movie, to seeing him with his best friends on tour with my own eyes felt surreal. YUNGBLUD gives 100% in everything that he does, you can’t help but leave his show feeling inspired and moved by his dedication and energy.
